John Ogilvi Profile

JOHN OGILVIE, founder and director of Byron Yoga, has been teaching yoga for over twenty-five years and leads the Byron Yoga Centre teacher training courses known as high quality. John also teaches regular classes as part of the regular Byron Yoga weekly timetable.
John Ogilvie is one of those rare people you meet with whom you feel an almost instant heart connection. There is a glint in his eyes that tells of an inner-spring of joy and a hint of boyish cheekiness. His presence is one of yogic lightness that makes you realise that you are smiling when you are taking his class.
His classes are both challenging and dynamic, and joyful teaching style, laughing all the way through his classes. He always says yoga ought to be performed joyfully, or not at all! – He teaches all different approaches to yoga and hoping that one day, yoga will be a part of their daily life. He continues to deepen his own practice and exploring the best way to spread infectious joy in the students.

Purna, a Sanskrit word meaning 'complete', 'integrated' or 'full'. We seek to integrate all 8 limbs (Ashtanga) of yoga the way it was originally taught, more than 3000 years ago in India. Yoga asanas, or postures, are just one of these limbs. The other limbs are equally important, including meditation, pranayama breath control, and the personal and social code of ethics, the yamas and niyamas.

His classes are integrate the different yoga styles of Iyengar and Ashtanga, as well as the softer Sivananda and Satyananda practices of yoga and the energy principles of Aikido.
